Good questions
Which Macs work?
Any Mac with a Force Touch trackpad (built-in or a Magic Trackpad). The Taptic Equalizer needs macOS 14.4 or newer for the system-audio tap.
Does it record my audio?
No. The equalizer reads the system-audio stream on-device, detects beats in real time and discards the samples. Nothing is recorded or sent.
Will I feel it all the time?
Haptics only fire while a finger rests on the trackpad. While the equalizer is on, hover taps pause so the beat comes through cleanly.
What permissions does it need?
Accessibility (to know which element you're hovering) and, only if you turn on the equalizer, Audio Recording (to tap system audio). Both are one-time macOS prompts.
Mouse or external trackpad?
Haptics need a Force Touch trackpad. A regular mouse can't produce the taps, but hover detection still works if you also have a trackpad connected.
